3. Investing in Stock Markets - The Averaging Principle
I originally included an article on the Averaging principle in the June 2008 Newsletter. Two years on, due to the uncertainty that still exists in financial markets, this approach to investing is more relevant than ever.
Averaging is a straight forward concept as it caters very well for investors who are looking to invest in share based funds over a period of time when market conditions are volatile. It removes the need to make 'all in' or 'all out' decisions at any one point in time or waiting, for what is preceived as the right time to invest. As such, the impact of short term volatility on share based funds, is reduced.
Averaging, as a strategy, can be incorporated into existing and new investments and it is easily facilitated by most of the companies I deal with, including Irish Life, New Ireland and Eagle Star. I have attached a flyer which outlines how Averaging works and the advantages it offers.
